Andre Nel, M.D., Ph.D., a practicing allergist and internationally acclaimed expert in the field of air pollution and nanomaterial health effects was recruited as founder and Chief of the new Division of NanoMedicine. Dr Nel is Director of the UC Nanotoxicology Research and Training program, Director of the UC Center for the Environmental Impact of Nanotechnology, Co-director of the EPA Southern California Particle Center and Principal Investigator of the NIAID-funded UCLA Asthma and Allergic Disease Clinical Research Center. A major mission of the new Division is to educate and train physicians and scientists in the principles and application of Nanoscience and Nanomaterial applications and safety in Medicine
